Location: New South Wales, Australia
Married: September 2010
I joined eHarmony at the end of April 2010. Paul signed up about two weeks before me. I was 29 (I’m now 30) and Paul was 35. Paul was living in Singleton, NSW, and I was living and working on a horse farm in the Hunter Valley, about an hour and half drive apart from each other.
Both Paul and I were at that stage in our lives where we wanted to find true love and both have similar stories as to why we took the plunge to join eHarmony.
I signed up mainly because of encouragement (persistence!) from my sister and mother. They suggested giving it a go as I had nothing to lose, so I did! I was hesitant at first but after seeing the TV ads, and with my family motivating me, I decided to give it a try. Paul on the other hand joined all on his own and without telling anyone. He wanted to meet someone special and thought he’d give eHarmony a try.
Neither of us had done anything like this before – eHarmony was the first time we ventured into online dating, and the last! Both Paul and I had been single for the past year before meeting. We each had the occasional date, but nothing significant.
After completing the profile questionnaire we began to receive and review matches sent to us by eHarmony, and both found this to be quite exciting. I had only been on the site for two weeks before Paul caught my eye. Paul was my first and last date!! After sending me an eHarmony ‘ice-breaker’, we began to exchange emails and more photos, and the rest, as they say, is history!
This first phone call we had was nerve-racking but were both so pleased afterwards that we couldn't stop smiling. We just seemed to connect and laugh at the same things which was great, but it also kind of freaked me out as I had never met this man before, yet it felt like we’d known each other for ages.
Although we come from different countries (me being English and Paul an Aussie) and different backgrounds, we found we were really compatible in things like our attitude and views, and interests, interests, sense of humour and our dreams for the future. Neither of us had experienced this kind of connection in previous relationships - we both felt this was all too good to be true.
This has been a bit of a whirlwind romance – we’ve been together for five months and as crazy as it might sound to some people, we’re married. But when you know, you know, and we for sure know.
We would definitely recommend eHarmony to other people, and have done so. We’d like to put to rest any negative thoughts people may have about online dating. When discuss our story we refer to eHarmony as a relationship site where members are for real and serious about finding true love.
The only complaint I have about eHarmony is that I paid for a three month subscription and I found the love of my life in the first two weeks!!! Thanks eHarmony!
