Matched: 5th January 2012
The early stages
We were matched on the 5th January and by the 22nd, we’d gone through the guided communication process, eHarmony emails and we’re talking on the phone, arranging to meet up.
Originally we decided that Heath would come over to Tassie to meet me here, as I have my daughter to look after. He booked to fly over on the 10th March, however, in getting to know each other through phone calls every night, emails every day, I decided I didn’t want to wait so long to meet. I felt like we needed to meet to see if we had the connection in person, because I was finding myself becoming rather attached to a person I had never met. We had traded lots of photos, some old and some new through email so we did at least have an idea of who we were talking to.
I talked to Heath and then organised with my parents to look after my daughter for a day and a half so I could go over and meet this wonderful man who was making me smile again. Heath was very pleased to hear we wouldn’t have to wait so long to meet and I booked to go over and see him on the 18th February, having to (reluctantly) fly back the next day.
The first date
Heath picked me up from the airport and took me to his place to freshen up and drop my bags off. We then went to the Lindsay Fox Automobile Museum and from there Heath took me on a romantic picnic lunch (I have never been taken on a picnic lunch before) to the botanical gardens, where we spent the next few hours talking, eating, snuggling and enjoying one another’s company. It was at the picnic that we both felt that we had that something extra special, that final connection, or piece of the puzzle that we were both looking for.
After the picnic we drove to Altona beach, went for a walk along the beach and the pier before we went back to Heath’s house to get ready to go out for dinner, where we enjoyed great food and conversation.
What happened next
We are still managing long distance and have flights booked back and forth sharing the travelling so that we see one another usually every three weeks, sometimes less but no more. We have made plans and discussed our future and where we want to live. I’m hoping to be able to move to Melbourne as I can transfer in my work but Heath has said that if I can’t move he will move here, so we can be together. We talk on the phone at least twice a day and email every day, as well as texting.
In many ways, Heath and I both believe we had love at first sight, even though the eHarmony process made sure we knew each other fairly well prior to our first meeting.
