Location: Australia/Canada
Married: 1st October 2011
In the beginning… November 2009
Sophie and Quincy’s fairytale all started with a cheeky smiley face she sent him. She loved reading his profile and the fact that she already had the answers to so many important questions was appealing. This gave her confidence in knowing that he was the type of person she would like to get to know. As curiosity intensified, short emails gradually became longer and then came their first phone call - it was a surreal experience for both of them. They were finally able to put a voice (and accent!) to the person they already knew so well.
It wasn’t long before the two took to Skype as a way of seeing one another. It was a natural step for the couple as a mass of sea and land separated them - Sophie lived in Sydney, Australia, and Quincy lived in Calgary, Canada. Although they were physically separated, they didn’t see it as a barrier as Sophie often travelled internationally for work.
The first date… September 2010
When Sophie had finished a recent work trip in Germany she flew to Los Angeles where she met Quincy for the first time. They had planned to meet at a country that was half way between them, but Quincy wanted Sophie to meet his sister in San Diego. As soon as Sophie landed they jetted off in a car to the beautiful beach city with Quincy having their whole week planned.
Sophie and Quincy’s first date lasted just over a week. The couple stayed in the centre of the city and indulged in all the treats and sights it had to offer – they went on a helicopter ride over the San Diego vineyards, took long walks on the beach, went for massages, cocktails and romantic dinners. Sophie enjoyed the time with him so much, she extended her trip by 3 days.
The proposal......June 2011
In late June, Sophie went to Eastern Canada for a holiday with Quincy. They spent their time exploring its beautiful sites and enjoying each other’s company. They went to Ottowa, Toronto and Kingston, visiting members of Quincy’s family and attending his cousin’s wedding.
On 28 June, Quincy took Sophie on a surprise helicopter ride to the Hillerbrand Winery in Nagara-On-The-Lake. Unbeknownst to Sophie, Quincy had a crafty plan to propose while they were there.
When the helicopter landed, the happy couple walked up to the restaurant balcony overlooking the vineyard. While standing there enjoying a glass of champagne, Quincy proposed to Sophie. He did it in tradition, bending down on one knee and asking her to marry him. Sophie of course said “Yes!” – thinking of nothing more that she would rather do. After many hugs and kisses the couple enjoyed a dream like dinner at the restaurant.
The wedding… October 2011
The couple were married in the Italian Garden of Hatley Castle in the Royal Roads University, British Columbia. They chose this location not only because of the beauty of the garden, but because it was also Quincy’s alma mater. Sophie’s family and closest friends flew in from Sydney and Quincy’s family came from all over Canada and the US to attend.
The reception was held at the Hotel Grand Pacific, and following the wedding, they remained in Victoria for their honeymoon.
