Danica and Matt
Danica: “I was super keen to meet that special person and I thought that living in a capital city would maximise my chances of this. Instead, I was finding that I was continuously disappointed by the men I was meeting; there was never a spark and I couldn’t see a future with them. Some of my mates had been talking about eHarmony and one of them in particular had landed herself a hunky, and very sweet, fireman on the website; I had to give it a go!
I think I was barely on it for two weeks before “Mr Cloncurry” a.k.a. Matt appeared and boy was I swept off my feet! I couldn’t stop looking at his profile, and even to this day I can say that his third and fourth profile photos were much cuter than his first (much to his surprise)! After several icebreakers were exchanged, I just couldn’t wait any longer, and initiated the first email contact.
Our first date didn’t really go as planned. It was around Christmas time that we decided to meet as Matt was driving past my town on his way to visit family. I remember feeling really let down as he had promised to visit before Christmas but Christmas came and went and I hadn’t heard from him. He eventually contacted me after Christmas via email to apologise and explain how his plans had all changed. I felt shattered and I wondered if he even wanted to see me after all.
We decided to meet for dinner shortly after the New Year as I felt like we had a connection that was real and genuine (even if it was just over email) so I had to forget my disappointment. I felt the nervous butterflies in my stomach, but these feelings quickly dissipated as we began chatting and enjoyed a drink over dinner and it was the best date! I rang my mum afterwards and told her that I think I have found a winner! I was so excited thinking about what might be to come but gutted that he had to go back to Cloncurry.
Matt ended up moving to Townsville in early 2012 and I paid him a visit. I had the best weekend that I’d had in such a long time. We sat up and chatted to each other until the early hours of the morning, and I was just so happy to be with him. After that weekend, we decided that we were officially dating, that we would give our long distance relationship a go and that we would close our eHarmony accounts. Approximately nine months later, I applied for a secondment to Townsville for a year and I got it! I’m now living with Matt in Townsville and we have been together now for 16 months; he just makes my world complete!
Matt: “It was back in 2011 when I finally decided to sign up to eHarmony. I was living by myself in the small Queensland town of Cloncurry; just me, my dog and my cat. I was looking for a change and really wanted to meet someone special to share my life with. The month after I joined, I started communicating with Danica.
Danica and I had a lot in common. After the initial questions and answers we sent to one another, it seemed really natural to start sending each other messages over the website. We clicked straight away and it was obvious to me that Danica was exactly the kind of person I wanted to meet. We continued to send emails back and forth on eHarmony and, eventually, on our personal emails.
We arranged to meet as I was driving near her on a road trip down the coast. My plans changed and I ended up seeing her on my drive back up instead, which I’ve now realised she was quite upset about – sorry! Nonetheless, we eventually met just after the New Year and after a touch of nerves at first, the conversation flowed and we both had a great time. We didn’t just have dinner together, but talked for a couple of hours, got ice-cream for dessert and walked down by the Brisbane River for a couple more hours.
Danica and I lived 2000km apart and I didn’t know how to bring up the topic of one of us relocating. Before I knew it, I had a job offer in Townsville which I accepted. Danica came to visit me there and I felt nervous and excited all over again waiting to meet her at the airport. We spent the weekend seeing the sights around Townsville and Magnetic Island and had a fantastic time. I’m so glad I had the courage to sign up and meet her. We have been together for 16 months now, and six months ago Danica managed to get a 12-month secondment from her usual job to a different position in Townsville. What can I say – Danica is such an amazing and special person, and as for me, I am the happiest I have been in many years.
