Sharon Draper- eharmony’s psychologist, dating and relationship expert

by

We’re excited to announce our collaboration with psychologist and relationship expert Sharon Draper. Originally from South Africa, Sharon is a highly-credentialed psychologist with 10 years’ experience. During this time, she’s helped countless people navigate the, often stressful, journey of looking for a partner. Based in Sydney, Sharon uses multiple therapies to help people learn to make genuine, healthy, long-lasting connections.

Sharon’s top dating and relationship tips are:

  1. Know what you want

Online dating can seem overwhelming, there are so many options and potential partners. It can be difficult to find what you’re looking for. Make sure you are aware of what matters in a prospective partner. Do you want kids? If yes, don’t spend time messaging the person who explicitly says children aren’t for them. Know what you want and go after it.

  1. Invest the time into finding your partner

Finding your romantic match will take some time, you might need to kiss a few frogs before finding your Prince. Make sure you’re committed to your search and use the right tools to source the best partner for you.

  1. Be authentic

We all want to be liked and loved, but you’re not going to meet anyone of value if you aren’t truthful about your interests, job or looks.

  1. If you like someone, let them know

It’s easy to fall into the trap of playing the ‘dating game’: waiting to text someone back, stringing someone along, or – the ultimate in bad manners – ghosting your prospective partner. If you like someone, let them know. The best relationships are built on mutual trust and respect, you can’t have this whilst game playing.
