Stay Smart Online Week

by

eHarmony is one of 1600 proud partners of Stay Smart Online Week, an Australian Government initiative providing internet users with simple steps they can take to stay safe and secure online.

Stay Smart Online suggests some tips to ensure your online dating experience is a safe and enjoyable one:

– Be careful about how much personal information you post online – use privacy settings to control who has access to your information

– Scammers can use dating websites to steal information from you for the purpose of stealing your identity. If someone asks you for bank or personal details, money or gifts, always exercise caution and consider the possibility that it may be a scam, even if you think you know the person well

– Do not send money overseas or via a direct transfer to anyone you have met online

– Use different passwords for each of your social networking accounts – if one of your passwords is stolen, not all of your accounts will be at risk.

For more online dating safety tips, visit the Stay Smart Online website. You can also subscribe to the free Stay Smart Online Alert Service to receive regular information about recent online scams and threats, and solutions to help manage any risks.

We also encourage you to listen to ‘Do You Stay Smart Online’, a brand new song released for Stay Smart Online Week 2014. Check out the new clip on the Stay Smart Online YouTube channel and share with your friends, family and colleagues.

eHarmony is a partner of the Australian Government’s Stay Smart Online initiative. This year’s theme – ‘On the Go’ – reflects the importance of staying safe and secure online while using mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, to stay connected for social networking, banking, shopping, and navigating the internet.
