The ultimate eharmony profile guide
From choosing a photo, to writing your ‘about me’ and filling out your profile sections, we understand that getting started on eharmony can be a little overwhelming, so we put together this easy step-by-step guide to setting up a killer profile and maximising your dating success.
Complete the Relationship Questionnaire
The first step is to register and to complete the Relationship Questionnaire. Ensure you are in a comfortable setting and allow yourself plenty of time for the questionnaire, otherwise you can simply save your progress and return at a later time.
Once you have completed at least Chapter 2 of the Questionnaire, you will be eligible to receive matches that meet your Match Preferences (your settings such as how far away or what age you would prefer your matches). By fully completing the Questionnaire, you will then be eligible to receive compatible matches so we strongly recommend doing so.
Understand your core values
After you complete the RQ you’ll be prompted to fill out your profile, however before you start it’s important you have a solid understanding of your core values and beliefs, as this will really help with writing your profile.
Your core values are key aspects of your personality and life that guide your actions and behavior. They are the most important things to you that make life worth living, and include things like: family, life ambitions, health beliefs, creative expression, travel, spirituality or religion. Your ideal partner will be aligned with your values so it’s important to highlight these in your profile.
Think about your top 5 core values and write them down as your key profile messages. Rather than a ‘check-list’ of the kind of person you want, think of your profile as a true reflection of yourself to attract the best person for you. By applying this mentality when writing your profile, you’ll find that it will attract people more closely aligned with your values, personality and interests.
Fill out your profile sections
From the member homepage, click the dropdown menu at the top of the page, and then ‘My Profile.’ You’ll see that most of your basic information is pre-filled using your questionnaire responses. Now using your values list as your key points to expand on, fill out the rest of the profile sections by clicking and typing your answer in each box. Be sure to also include your lifestyle, hobbies, interests and passions that your ideal partner would share with you too. Take your time to write out thoughtful and considered responses, and don’t forget to click ‘save’ after finishing each response.
Remember, the more details you reveal in your profile, the more opportunities there are for your matches to connect with you and build common-ground.
Once you’re finished, be sure to do a proof-read to tidy up sentences and correct any spelling errors. Your matches will appreciate a polished profile and the effort you put in. You could be the best possible match for someone – but if your profile doesn’t reflect this or looks sloppy, your match won’t think twice before clicking away.
We understand it’s hard to write about yourself so if possible, get a trusted friend to read your profile to get their sense check of whether it’s a true reflection of you.
We know looks aren’t everything, but users with photos get 5x more communication than those without, so don’t skip this part! Apply the same method when choosing photos as with writing your profile.
Your photos are another chance to showcase the true you and attract your perfect match. Ideally choose a selection of about 10 photos that include a mixture of head shots and full length shots.
They should be recent, good quality (i.e. no dark, blurry or grainy photos!) and reflect your values and interests. E.g. if travel is one of your highest values, feature photos from some of your favourite trips. Make sure your photos are clear and avoid group shots or any with the opposite sex.
When you’re ready, click ‘Upload photos’ to the left of your profile edit page and you’ll be prompted to either add photos from your computer or import directly from Facebook (don’t worry, eharmony will never post anything on your Facebook account).
Lastly, click ‘Preview Profile’ in the top section to view how your matches will see your profile. Make any other tweaks before finalising and saving, and relax knowing that now you’ve put in the effort your profile will do the rest of the work for you by attracting the right people for you.
