Chronicles of an Internet Dater Part 5: The Proposal

By Eve Wilson

By now you’re across some of my adventures with the online dating journey. And despite some interesting (and downright weird) dates, ultimately, I found my One. When I started writing Eve’s 30 Dates I had no idea that I would have the happy ending. I admit there were times when I wanted to throw in towel, but giving up isn’t in my nature, and in the end I got way more out of this whole experience than I ever dreamed possible. Not only did I find someone that I am attracted to, but I found my best friend and love of my life.

This is the story of how The One and I got engaged.

On the night of my book launch, The One said he wanted to make a speech. I thought it would be about how proud of me he was or some similar form of flattery. Little did I know that he was planning the most romantic night of my life!

In celebration of the launch, we had planned to spend the night in the city and had booked a hotel; The One even upgraded us to amazing suite. A nice surprise, but I didn’t think anything more of it.

The book launch was a fantastic event and everything I wanted it be. And then, amidst the celebration with friends, fans, and family, it happened. The One took the microphone and asked me to come and stand next to him. There and then, in front of the entire crowd, he got down on one knee and POPPED THE QUESTION! It was the most romantic moment of my life.

I was in shock, and the proposal was a complete surprise. Though secretly I had hoped it would happen at some stage, The One had thrown me off the scent by telling me it wouldn’t happen until at least the following year. He’d even asked my mother and father, brother, and 20 year-old daughter for their blessing, so they were all in on the surprise too. Well played, Sir.

You’re probably wondering what my answer was.

Of course I said YES! Because I was so caught up in the moment I didn’t even see the ring. It was gorgeous, and I was absolutely euphoric – I had the most amazing, romantic night of my life and talk about a memorable book launch. Here I was encouraging others to take a chance with online dating because I’d found love, and now I was engaged!

The One is everything I never knew I wanted. Yes, I said never. Because when I first started my dating journey, I had a very different idea in my head about who and what Mr Right would be. But as it turns out, I found someone who is perfect for me, and that’s a pretty amazing feeling.

I realise just how lucky I am and want to help others find their happy ending too. Stay tuned for the final instalment of my series where I’ll delve into my top internet dating rules.

Until then, happy dating!
