Does dating get easier in your senior years?

by

You may not have expected to be single in your senior years, but dating in your 50s, 60s and beyond can be a lot of fun. We have four great reasons why dating in your golden years is not only easier, but could be the key to unlocking a new era of romance in your life.

No more games

Dating in your senior years means the end of petty games. The life experience you acquire makes it easy to recognise – and admit – when there’s no spark. You just get on with it, and there are no hard feelings if things aren’t working out. Even if a date doesn’t lead to a great romance, you might just walk away with a new friend.

You’re more patient

Generally, older people have been through the fire and emerged like a proverbial phoenix from the ashes from their past relationships. As a result, everybody is more patient and kind to potential partners. You can expect your dates to show up and to have your calls returned instead of being ignored or mislead; it’s a common courtesy that older people are more attuned to than younger people.

You take each other as you are

People in their 20s and 30s tend to have the misguided notion that it’s possible to change their partner’s deeply-rooted qualities, to make them more ‘this’ and less ‘that’. They think if they nag, sulk and argue enough that their partner will spend less money on shoes, less time obsessively playing golf, or whatever else they might not like about the person. However, in later decades, you begin to realise that the leopard you’re living with won’t change its spots. Instead, you have to take people as they are. This can be a liberating and far more realistic way to love someone and be loved in return.

You have the means and motivation to be romantic

Once you meet the right person, you will want to treat them the right way and show your appreciation. With age comes the realisation that you can’t take your loved one for granted and that you have to treasure every moment you have together. Plus, people who are older are often more financially secure, so ‘just because’ gifts like bunches of roses and tickets to the theatre are all part of the terrain. Everybody wants and needs to feel special, so enjoy it!

So what’s the verdict? Do you think that it’s easier to date later on in life compared to in your youth? Trying out free senior dating sites could be the key to unlocking a new era of romance in your life.
