Carly & Paul
In the beginning…
Carly joined eHarmony at the end of April 2010. Paul signed up about two weeks before her. She was 29 and Paul was 35. Paul was living in Singleton, NSW, and Carly was living and working on a horse farm in the Hunter Valley, about an hour and half drive apart from each other.
Carly and Paul were both at that stage in their lives where they wanted to find true love and both have similar stories as to why they took the plunge to join eHarmony.
Carly signed up mainly because of encouragement (persistence!) from her sister and mother. They suggested she give it a go as she had nothing to lose, so she did! She was hesitant at first but after seeing the TV ads, and with her family motivating her, she decided to give it a try. Paul on the other hand joined all on his own and without telling anyone. He wanted to meet someone special and thought he’d give eHarmony a try.
This was an online dating first, as both of them hadn’t done anything like this before – eHarmony was the first time they ventured into online dating, and the last! Both Carly and Paul had been single for the past year before meeting. They each had the occasional date, but nothing significant.
After completing the profile questionnaire they began to receive and review matches sent to them by eHarmony, and both found this to be quite exciting. Carly had only been on the site for two weeks before Paul caught her eye. Paul was her first and last date! After Paul sent Carly an eHarmony ‘ice-breaker’, they began to exchange emails and more photos, and the rest, as they say, is history!
The first date…
The first phone call Carly described as ‘nerve-racking’ but both of them were so pleased afterwards that they couldn't stop smiling. They just seemed to connect and laugh at the same things which was great, but it also kind of freaked Carly out as she had never met this man before, yet it felt like they’d known each other for ages. Neither Carly nor Paul had experienced this kind of connection in previous relationships - they both felt this was all too good to be true.
Carly said ‘This has been a bit of a whirlwind romance – we’ve been together for five months and as crazy as it might sound to some people, we’re married. But when you know, you know, and we for sure know.”
