Kara and Geoffrey
In the beginning…
Kara and Geoffrey both joined eHarmony in January 2010. Kara had just come out of a previous relationship and a failed attempt at online dating on another site. After being on eHarmony for around a month, Kara was matched with Geoff and she decided to reach out to him. After making initial contact they began sending long emails to each other, which enabled them to work out each other’s personality traits quickly. Everything was going well, but Kara and Geoff were both a little hesitant to actually meet. Within a couple of weeks Kara finally worked up the courage to give Geoff a call.
They began calling and texting each other constantly from that first conversation, with some calls lasting up to three hours. The next step was to organise a first date, which was a challenge as Kara had a young child and Geoff worked odd hours as a shift worker, but they finally managed to work out a time on a weekend when they were both free.
The first date…
Kara and Geoff lived around two hours from each other so Geoff decided to make the trek to Kara’s place. They were both excited to meet and they spent a lovely afternoon together, even though they shared most of their first date with Kara’s loud one year old! After the first date Kara and Geoff both felt there was a strong connection, which continued to grow as they talked on the phone everyday. They spent a lot of time getting to know each other and fell in love quickly.
Kara wanted a man who had good morals, a similar lifestyle and a solid grounding. She was very lucky to find all of these qualities in Geoff, and he had good looks to boot!
On their fourth date they were relaxing on the couch chatting about life and love when Geoff went quiet. With a little smile he looked to Kara and said, “You know, I’m going to marry you one day.” Kara was absolutely shocked - but secretly very happy.
Kara and Geoff never really had an actual proposal. They moved in together about five months after their first date and often toyed with the thought of marriage. But they both wanted to elope rather than having a big wedding, as they’d both been married before and didn’t enjoy all the fuss.
After all the flirting and joking around they decided set a date to elope. They organised a celebrant and on the day of the elopement they started to make their way down to where the ceremony was to be held. About 10 minutes into the trip, Geoff pulled over and proposed quickly. His proposal was cheeky, as they had already booked everything. Geoff walked Kara to a spot overlooking the water and said, “I have something to ask you” and of course Kara said, “yes”!
Their secret wedding took place down in Berry, a beautiful country town on the South Coast of NSW.
Their family and friends were surprised but so happy they’d decided to bite the bullet. The wedding was made even more special by some news Kara had shared with Geoff a couple of days earlier – she was pregnant!
Their baby was born in June 2011 with Kara and Geoff never being happier, with each day being better than the previous. Kara’s family can’t believe what a catch she has in Geoff, and his family think exactly the same about her.
