Alesha and Nate
Alesha: “Fate brought me to eHarmony. I was on Facebook and accidently clicked on an eHarmony advert. When the page popped up I thought I would see what it was all about, so filled out the questionnaire and went from there. It was a bit different for Nate. He was sitting at his home watching TV when the advert came on, so he decided to fill out his details and see what happened. We were both comfortable with our lives at the time and weren't certain that we were looking for relationships but thought it would be a good place to meet decent people. Little did we know at the time that eHarmony would lead us to our life partner and parent to our children.
We both signed up in February 2011, our profiles were matched and we started emailing for a few weeks before deciding to meet. We first met at Alexandra Headlands on the Sunshine Coast after work and walked along the beach getting to know each other. It was a very short and sweet first meeting as we both had other arrangements to go to afterwards. Walking up to him I remember thinking to myself, ‘wow he's early and gorgeous.’ I remember being so shy and just asking him questions which was strange for me but Nate was nervous too and just answered politely, which made our conversation flow more easily.
I moved to Parrearra from Victoria in 2008 and Nate moved close by in January 2011. We both had similar upbringings which was a great conversation starter. We both grew up as farm kids and had a lot in common, so clicked straight away. We kept emailing and messaging after our first date and soon went out together to see a local live band and also had our first kiss! The following weekend I went as his date to his basketball presentation and the night after we went out to dinner with his family.
In April we took a road trip from the Sunshine Coast up to Airlie Beach and stayed with my mum. The 13-hour drive was the perfect way to get to know each other and it was a lot of fun playing games to entertain ourselves along the way. We went to Daydream Island, played mini golf, lay on the grass, listened to a band and had a great, relaxing holiday before driving home.
Five months later we moved in together and then four months after that we moved again up to Airlie Beach. Nate was offered a great job and found me one shortly after, working at the same mining company. The only downfall was that we worked different rosters, so didn't get to see each other much at all.
We found out we were having a baby in April this year! I was completely oblivious at the time that Nate had actually bought a ring and planned to propose on Daydream Island exactly a year after we first met. Because we were so busy with work, not everything went to plan. There was one night when we were both free so Nate took the plunge and proposed at Airlie Beach on the 10th of May this year.
We both like moving fast as we think it keeps like interesting. As you can see, so much has happened in the first 18 months of our relationship. My mum used to say to me ‘you know when you know,’ and although it sounds like a total cliché, I can still picture the exact moment when he turned and saw me for the first time. I hope I never forget it.”
