Olivia and Ted
Olivia: “I contacted Ted first, giving him a nudge and email through eHarmony. We chatted online for about a week before deciding to meet up. I liked Ted’s profile as he seemed genuine, and he also had nice pictures. His profile picture was of him in a suit, looking very smart at the races next to the roses, a perfect shot to reel the ladies in online! He also had similar values, he didn’t smoke and didn’t want someone else who smoked, and he didn’t seem to mind too much about religion, which was fine by me.
We were both living in the same suburb in Melbourne, believe it or not, so met in an adjacent suburb at the Town Hall and went to a nearby restaurant. I was a little nervous beforehand but we got along so well, had a great meal and conversation flowed the whole night. Ted had taken public transport so I offered to take him home. He invited me inside and gave me a tour of his place, and we watched a bit of TV. We didn’t kiss on the first date, just a kiss on the cheek and the mention that we’d both like to meet up again sometime. I knew this was something special not too long after the second date, and we saw each other in fairly quick succession from there. We seemed to have so much in common, particularly that we both value our families and like travelling.
Ted had remembered on our first date that I mentioned I really wanted to go to Machu Picchu but wanted to go with someone, as I wasn’t so confident about going there by myself. So we decided towards the end of 2012 that we were going to South America! Ted could speak basic Spanish so it was perfect, he did all the speaking and I decided where we would go every day. We had booked to go to Machu Picchu months in advance and had also booked in to hike up Wayna Picchu, the mountain adjacent to the ruins. When we got to the top one very early morning, we were sitting on some rocks overlooking the amazing Andean Mountains and snow-capped mountains in the distance. Ted said, “There’s a question I’ve been meaning to ask” and proposed! It wasn’t fancy, no bended knee, but it was so romantic and perfect, and of course I said “yes”. We planned our honeymoon before we had even told any of our friends and family we were engaged. We are both so excited to be getting married in March 2014 and cannot believe we lived in the same suburb for four years before we met each other, thanks to eHarmony.”
