Lisa and Les

Balcatta, Western Australia

In the beginning…

After being matched on eHarmony Lisa and Les began communicating using an instant messenger service. They chatted for a week or so before Lisa plucked up the courage to call Les’s mobile – Lisa was very pleased to hear that Les had a nice deep voice! During their first call, Lisa put forward a challenge to Les of making her a good Indian curry as he had boasted about it, and Lisa wanted to compare it to her own which she reckoned was ‘bloody good too’!

The first date…

On their first date, Les cooked his famous curry for Lisa at her place. In order to assuage her friend’s concerns about inviting a stranger into her house, Lisa arranged a call from one of them at 8pm. When her friend called, Lisa told Les to answer the phone and tell her friend that Lisa couldn’t come to the phone because she was “a little tied up right now”. Lisa and Les couldn’t stop laughing! Les ended up almost burning the curry because they were so engrossed chatting to each other, but he managed to save it and they had a fabulous night.

Despite a fantastic first date, Lisa began to get doubts as to whether her and Les could be more than just good friends. She arranged to meet someone else she had been matched with on eHarmony. She didn’t want to lead Les on in any way so she made the decision to break it off with him. Les took it well and asked if they could still be friends, which Lisa agreed to.  In the spirit of friendship, they decided to honour the second date they had planned earlier. Les told Lisa on the night that he had decided to meet up with someone else also, so not to feel bad about breaking up with him. It was then she started to doubt her decision to break up – Les was so lovely!

When Lisa went on her date with the other man, she realised just how much she actually like Les. Afterwards, she texted him to see how his date was going and to see if he wanted to come to a fund raising event she was working at on Sunday.  When he didn’t reply and she thought the worst – had Lisa messed up and lost her chance? But sure enough, on Sunday Les turned up with his kids and dog in tow.  After Lisa had finished work, they all walked along the river and Lisa sneakily held Les’s hand. It was then he started to get the idea that she was still interested, and the rest is history!

The proposal…

Les proposed in a local park. He was too nervous to get down on one knee! Lisa knew he was planning on proposing at some stage – they had even decided on a ring – but Les still had butterflies. She said yes, of course.

The wedding…

Lisa & Les eloped to Broome, just the two of them and they wrote their own vows. They were married on Cable Beach in the afternoon in an intimate ceremony. They hadn’t organised anything apart from the ceremony so they were surprised when they just turned up at Cable Beach Resort Bar and were given a free bottle of Champagne and the best table in the house so they could watch the romantic sunset as husband and wife.
