Donna and Shaun
Shaun: “After 5 long years of being single and raising my 3 kids on my own, I finally decided it was time to start looking after myself a bit more, without being too selfish I was going to spend my free time meeting new people. I had never used a dating site before and actually thought it was a bit lame when people used one and it kind of annoyed me watching the so called success stories on the TV commercials. I have never been so wrong!
I decided to use eHarmony because I thought the people on there would be more genuine as it wasn’t a free site. This turned out to be the best decision of my life. I had only been on a few weeks when the love of my life Donna reached out and woke me up. I work in the mining industry so I’m away more than I’m home so when we started talking online I was always on site at the mine. We organised to catch up for a drink at a local Fremantle bars one afternoon. I will remember for the rest of my life seeing Donna standing out the front waiting for me to turn up, I was running late because I missed a turn off on the freeway as I was extremely nervous. As I walked up I could see Donna looking up and down the street (probably thinking I was a no show). She looked absolutely amazing.
We sat there that afternoon telling each other our life stories, we both have 3 great kids and we have both been married twice. Both work in the same industry. Nearly all of our interests and hobbies were the same, except she actually follows through with her fitness hobbies (now thankfully I’ve started to as well just so I can keep up with her).
We are inseparable now and I can’t imagine a life without Donna by my side. To celebrate our 6 month anniversary I wanted it to be as special as possible so I took Donna to Phuket and we spent our anniversary canoeing around the islands. It was sensational being surrounded by so much beauty (the islands weren’t too bad either).
I have never spent so much time laughing and having fun before I met Donna, she is always so happy and bubbly and has the most infectious smile. It’s taken me 38 years to find complete happiness and it has been worth the wait.
Donna: “It was Easter Friday, when the eHarmony ad came on TV, talk for free all weekend, I had seen the ad so many times before and never really thought that it would work. I sat for a while and then thought well why not, I had nothing to lose. I filled out all the details and by midnight I had quite a few matches. It was exciting to see that other people where in the same situation as me and just wanted to meet someone to share things with and have some fun.
I read Shaun’s profile and must say was attracted to the photos he had put on, just what I was looking for - a bit ‘out there’ and basically enjoyed life. He was very honest in his profile, which I liked, the fact that he worked away (FIFO) and was not interested in anyone who couldn’t accept that type of lifestyle.
We started talking by eHarmony email and I knew by his responses that we had a lot in common. Shaun was away so we exchanged phone numbers and continued texting then decided we would meet for drinks and ended up having dinner and just couldn’t stop talking about ourselves and our kids. From that night I knew that we would be seeing each other again.
After my husband died I remarried in 2011 but it ended after six months. After having this relationship I was a bit wary of how ‘nice’ Shaun was and I suppose I was waiting for something to go wrong, I organised a date so Shaun could meet some of my friends. Of course they all thought he was just the best!
Since then we have spent what time we can together, juggling houses, work and kids.
In October last year Shaun organised for us to go to Phuket for a holiday – all at his organising! A car picked us up from the airport and took us to the Novotel, I just stood in the foyer with my mouth open for a while. We headed to our room, on the pool level of course, opened the door and jumped straight into the Jacuzzi! It was just amazing.
Shaun organised for us to go on a twilight sea canoe tour around the islands of Phuket, it was the most romantic day. We had an amazing time together and are now planning our next holiday to the snow.
I can’t actually believe that I have met someone who truly loves me and treats me like a princess. He makes me smile everyday and I don’t think I have laughed so much. He is the most generous, kind, loving, thoughtful person and I am so glad I listened to whatever it was that Easter Friday.
My friends and work colleagues say they have never seen me so happy! Thanks to eHarmony I have found a wonderful partner and amazing friend who I can share so much with.”
