Adelaide goes by many names: the Festival City, the City of Churches, the Learning City, the 20-minute City. It’s a beautiful coastal town and a perfect place to meet someone special. With south Australians coming from more than 120 different countries – one in five was born overseas – there is huge diversity of culture, which is great news for singles.
But because a big city, even a well-planned one like Adelaide, means a lot of fish in the sea when it comes to dating, it’s not always easy to find that special someone. Rather than spend your time searching for suitable singles at the city hot spots, why not let us do the searching for you? At eharmony we select and send compatible matches straight to you.
When you do connect with someone, where’s better than the Barossa Valley to wine and dine your date? Or what about a day trip to the sunny beaches of Glenelg? It’s not hard to set the scene for love in Adelaide, whether you find someone from West Lakes or Norwood.
In a city as diverse and large as Adelaide dating can be a tricky business. Between work and friends it can be hard to find the time to meet someone. And even if you do, it can be hard to meet compatible singles at a pub or nightclub or outside your circle of friends. With online dating Adelaide singles can find each other more easily.
At eharmony, we help you connect with local singles to make the process of meeting someone much more enjoyable. We find like-minded singles so you can be sure you’ll be compatible on a deep level. These free to review matches are pre-screened and delivered to your inbox, so there’s no need to spend time searching through endless profiles, and you’re only meeting singles you have a better chance of connecting with.
eharmony is a dating website with a difference. It all starts with you. Our Relationship Questionnaire helps us get to know you first so we can find matches who are right for you.
Our Compatibility Matching System™ will then connect you with local singles who match you on key dimensions such as character, passion, intellect and sense of humour. In other words, being compatible with someone goes much deeper than what your interests are, like whether you both like red wine and support the Crows. We match you on the things that really matter when it comes to dating and finding a great relationship.

When you meet someone, you will find Adelaide provides a wealth of opportunities to explore. Here are a few first date ideas to get you going:
Festival date: Adelaide is home to a vast array of festivals all through the year, including WOMADelaide, the Adelaide Festival of the Arts and Adelaide Fringe – the third largest fringe festival in the world. You may find yourself in a tiny room with a makeshift stage, seeing a performance poet throwing olives around the room – dating in Adelaide can certainly be a colourful experience.
Pub date: Adelaide dating can be a low-key, relaxing experience, and since the city has more than 100 pubs and clubs, with a number of the pubs dating back to the 1830s, why not find your very own one with your new date. Some, like the Grace Emily, are renowned for their live music nights.
Chocolate date: For chocolate lovers Adelaide has some delectable options, from locally made gelato to Haigh’s Chocolate Factory, where the visitor’s centre holds tastings and tours. What better way to impress an aficionado?
Picnic lunch date: Adelaide’s city centre has the luxury of being surrounded by gorgeous green spaces. In particular, the Botanic Garden is a sanctuary of calm and beauty, with 16 hectares of lush plant life. Pick up a feast from the Central Markets first for an impressive spread and escape city life for a little while.
Zoo date: The zoo is an easily accessible oasis sandwiched between the city centre and north Adelaide. Visit Wang Wang and Funi, the famous pandas, or spend some time with the slow loris. For something further afield you might like the Cleland Wildlife Park. Dating in Adelaide has never been cuter.
Wine date: McLaren Vale, the Barossa, the Clare Valley – these names are renowned the world over and they are all on Adelaide’s doorstep. Take a day out for a wine-tasting tour, or choose a winery with a restaurant for a long, relaxed lunch.
Food date: Adelaide prides itself on fresh produce and skilfully made meals. With so much to choose from, there is a cuisine for every taste – with good old fish and chips, a top-notch Chinatown, plenty of great Italian and some true fine-dining experiences. Adelaide singles are spoilt for choice when it comes to date dining options.
Beach date: Adelaide’s lucky residents have access to 65km of beach. And when it comes time to see your date in swimmers, Glenelg and Henley are the most popular and closest to the city centre for a quick dip after work. Or if you’re looking for somewhere more secluded, try venturing a bit further south along the Fleurieu peninsula.

In the beginning…
When Lee joined eharmony he was instantly matched with Vicki. He initiated contact with her by sending her an ‘Icebreaker’ message. Before responding, Vicki decided to check out his profile. She quickly found herself in a fit of giggles, completely getting his sense of humour. So Lee was given the green light, and she responded hastily.
The first date
After messaging for a couple of weeks, Lee and Vicki started to talk on the phone. Mustering up the courage, Lee decided to ask her out for dinner. Vicki had a rule that she would only go for a casual coffee on a first date, so she was hesitant to say yes. But she decided to follow her heart and accept the invitation.
The pair met on a warm summer night at a little Italian restaurant. They were both nervous but within the first hour they each realised the other possessed the exact qualities they were looking for.
After dinner, Lee insisted on walking Vicki to her car. They both knew how they felt about each other and agreed to talk the next day to arrange another date. Sure enough, that is exactly what happened.
